The 9th National Conference 2025 organized by the Bangladesh Society of Medical Microbiologists was held on April 19 at Kurmitola Golf Club. The event was attended by Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Honorable Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as the chief guest, and Dr. Sarwar Bari, Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Professor Dr. Nazmul Hossain, Director General of the Directorate of Health Education, and other dignitaries.
About 400 medical microbiologists from all over the country participated in the national conference. Several research papers were presented in the scientific session. The 8th Annual General Meeting 2025 was held on the same day. The new full executive committee (2025-2027) was formed in the general meeting.
Today, Saturday, May 3, 2025, the new committee assumed office at a restaurant in Dhaka through a simple ceremony. The Honorable Principal of East West Medical College, Vice President of BMDC, and former Director of NIPSOM, Professor Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, took over as the President of the Executive Committee.
Associate Professor Dr. Md. Abdullah Yusuf, Department of Microbiology, National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, took over as the General Secretary. Professor Dr. Md. Akram Hossain and Brigadier General Dr. Monirul Haque took over as the Vice Presidents of the Executive Committee.
Other positions include Professor Dr. AKM Musa as Treasurer, Joint Editor Professor Dr. Saiful Hasan Noman, Organizing Secretary Dr. Mohammad Jobayer, Scientific and Publications Secretary Dr. Mahfuza Nasrin, Office Secretary Dr. Nigah Jannat Dola, Cultural and Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Adnin Maurin.

The new executive committee of Bangladesh Society of Medical Microbiologists (BSMM) has pledged to work for the welfare of its esteemed members. During the COVID-19 pandemic, medical microbiologists have worked tirelessly despite the risk to their lives and have made a great contribution in the detection of the coronavirus.
The new executive committee expressed interest in working on increasing the job posts of esteemed members working in government jobs, taking joint initiatives with doctors on IPC, conducting research work including measures to prevent antibiotic resistance, and implementing antimicrobial stewardship in hospitals.
In addition, the new executive committee will organize a regular online CME program to present and share the research activities of various post-graduate institutions in the country in the field of medical microbiology, organize regular training, workshops and seminars for BSMM members (online and in person), organize scientific and awareness programs jointly with government and private related organizations to celebrate various important days, discuss MBBS curriculum and related issues, organize regional scientific programs in different regions outside Dhaka and take initiatives for lab accreditation. Everyone's cooperation is sought in this regard.
