Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury, a former influential MP from Faridpur. He used his kinship with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to establish a politics of terror in the area. He was also discussed on social media with controversial statements at various times. His name is heard the most when allegations of Padma Bridge corruption come to the fore. He has been on the run since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.
In addition to dominating the area, former MP Nixon Chowdhury has acquired huge wealth in name and anonymity. He owns more than a thousand bighas of land in his own and family’s names. He has plots and flats in Purbachal, Adabor, Gulshan and Banani in Dhaka. He has houses in Singapore, Australia and Canada. He has also built a whole zoo in his house in Faridpur.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has already entered the field to investigate all the allegations against Nixon Chowdhury. The agency’s Deputy Director Md. Salahuddin led a three-member team to investigate the allegations and summoned documents from more than a hundred institutions including Bangladesh Bank, 91 banks and financial institutions of the country, Dhaka South and North City Corporations, Dhaka and Faridpur Land Offices, RAJUK, Securities Exchange Commission, National Board of Revenue. It is learnt that several documents have already reached the ACC head office.

A senior ACC official told Daily Industry on condition of anonymity that the ACC has sent letters to various institutions to find the immovable and movable assets of the discussed Nixon Chowdhury. He and his wife have already been banned from traveling abroad. Although various sources have informed that he has already left the country. Our investigation is not stopping. The work of collecting and verifying documentary evidence by the ACC is ongoing.
He said that so far, the truth has been found about the house and flat in the capital. The primary truth has been found about the sand business and huge immovable assets in his own area. The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and the real truth will be revealed after the investigation.
According to the complaint, three-time independent MP from Faridpur-4 constituency, Mojibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury, first purchased 38 percent of the land in the Char area of Brahmanpara Mouza in Azimnagar Union of Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur district and built a house. Due to his relationship with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he took additional benefits in his area and established a reign of terror in Faridpur-4 constituency.
It is alleged that Nixon Chowdhury illegally extracted sand from the Arial Khan River and Padma River and sold it, making a business worth thousands of crores of taka. He called the surrounding landowners and forcibly brought them to his house and sent them to the Sadarpur Sub-Registry Office of Bhanga to register the land. In this way, he registered about 1,100 bighas of land in the names of his wife, children and brother.
It is also alleged that Nixon Chowdhury has purchased several houses and flats in Singapore, Australia and Canada. He has built a zoo and a garden on a few acres of land in his house. In addition, he has purchased several houses and flats in Bhanga, Faridpur and Dhaka. Some in his own name and some in the names of his wife, children and brother. According to the income tax file, it is known that there is information about assets of Tk 12-14 crore in the name of Nixon Chowdhury and Tk 17-18 crore in the name of his wife Tarin Hossain.
Following the ACC’s application, the court banned Nixon Chowdhury and his wife Tarin Hossain from traveling abroad on October 23.
According to the complaint, Shahadat Hossain, one of Nixon Chowdhury’s associates and the chairman of Faridpur Zilla Parishad, has become the owner of a huge amount of movable and immovable assets. With which Nixon Chowdhury has direct and indirect relations. Already, evidence of assets worth Tk 3 crore in the name of Shahadat Hossain and his wife has been found in the ACC’s investigation. That is why in February 2023, the ACC wants an account of the assets of Md. Shahadat Hossain and his wife Tania Akhter Ruma.
The investigation found evidence of their movable and immovable assets worth about Tk 3 crore, including a 1,300 square foot flat in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka, and 13 kathas of land in Pallabi, Dhaka.
Assets in the affidavit
According to the affidavit filed before the 12th National Parliament elections in 2024, former MP from Faridpur-4 constituency Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon owns 2,042 percent of agricultural land. Whereas 10 years ago, i.e. in the affidavit of 2014, the amount of agricultural land owned by him was only 38 percent.
There are plots of 975.28 percent, 510 percent, 30 percent, 234 percent, 290 percent in different areas of Brahmanpara, Azimnagar Union, Bhanga, Faridpur. The affidavit shows that he owns 3.28 percent of land in Savar, Dhaka. Apart from this, non-agricultural land includes a 5 katha plot in Shibchar Housing in Madaripur, 0.38 acre in Dattapara, 7.5 katha in Purbachal Rajuk in Dhaka and 0.01215 acre in Adabor.
Nixon Chowdhury has a 3716.11 square foot flat in Banani, Dhaka, a two-storey building, a one-storey office in Bhanga, Faridpur, a flat in Dhaka Property Development Limited in Banani, 4,891 square feet in Gulshan and another flat in House No. 16 on 79 Road in Gulshan. He has shown the price of his Dhaka Metro GH-21-2600 jeep as Tk 91.15 lakh.
The profession statement states that he is a partner in Swadhin Bangla Servicing and Filling Station, director of Nipa Paribahan, director of Rita Construction Limited and owner of N Dairy Farm. The affidavit states that he has Tk 38 lakh 30 thousand 600 in cash, Tk 7 lakh 45 thousand 259 in bank deposits. He has Tk 85 lakh in gold ornaments in the names of himself and his wife and dependents.
