The National Budget Advisory Council has approved the national budget of Tk 790,000 crore for the next fiscal year. The budget proposal was finalized at a meeting held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
In the different reality of Bangladesh that changed after the July coup, this time, Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed presented the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26 outside the parliament. On Monday, June 2, the new budget of Tk 7 lakh 90 thousand crore was broadcast simultaneously on state broadcaster BTV and other private media.
Opinions were sought from citizens on the proposed budget through the Finance Ministry’s website until June 19. After that, the Finance Ministry finalized the draft budget with some additions and subtractions.
The final draft of the budget was presented for approval at a meeting of the Advisory Council chaired by Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus today. After the approval of the Advisory Council, it will be implemented in the form of a presidential ordinance from July 1.
In this regard, an ordinance related to allocation and another ordinance related to customs and taxes are scheduled to be issued yesterday.
During the term of the elected government, the budget was presented in the National Assembly. Later, the proposed budget was discussed in the Assembly throughout the month. The budget for the new fiscal year was passed in the Assembly at the end of June. Since the Assembly is not in session this time, there is no opportunity for discussion or debate in the Assembly. However, after the budget is announced, citizens are asked for their opinions on the proposed budget through the website of the Ministry of Finance.
