A colorful rally and program titled "Self-Exploration" was held in Barisal on the occasion of National Social Service Day 2026. National Social Service Day was celebrated in Barisal with the theme "Trust in Technology and Compassion, Welfare and Equality in Social Service Today". On Saturday, January 3, at 10:30 am, a program titled "Inquiry" was organized by the Department of Social Service and Barisal Voluntary Social Welfare Organizations at the District Social Service Complex in Rupatli of the city.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Sohrab Hossain was the chief guest on the program titled "Self-Exploration". In his speech at the program titled "Self-Exploration", the chief guest said that the main aspect of self-exploration is self-realization. The first condition for purifying oneself is to constructively criticize one's work. If we want to improve and excel ourselves, deep self-inquiry is essential.

It is also important to develop a culture of self-inquiry in government offices. This will ensure transparency and accountability of the institution as well as sustainable development of the country. He said that the Department of Social Services has been supporting the underprivileged sections of the society through deep love and compassion.

This department has currently been established as a reliable shelter for the helpless and needy. The marginalized people of Barisal division are directly benefiting from various social service initiatives, which have set a unique example in overall social development. Addressing the capable people of the society, he said that if they do not just sit in the hope of social service but stand by the side of street children and the distressed people of the society from their respective positions, the country will be filled with love and compassion. In the open discussion, the speakers said that street children should be brought into a normal and socially mainstream lifestyle.

They should be provided with security of life along with ensuring opportunities for education. It is very important to arrange birth registration for street children and orphans. As a result, they will get an opportunity to apply for various jobs after being educated. Steps should be taken so that children in orphanages can acquire the necessary skills when they turn 18. In addition, the speakers commented that it is important to create a comprehensive database to store the information of every child in orphanages.

The welcome speech was delivered by AKM Akhtaruzzaman Talukder, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office. The program was presided over by Shah Md.
