An alleged mobile phone snatcher was caught red-handed by Ansar members at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital (NICVD) on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place at the hospital’s main gate when Ansar member Anik Basu allegedly caught a 26-year-old man, identified as Rocky, while he was fleeing after snatching a pedestrian’s mobile phone.
As news of the incident spread, an angry crowd attempted to assault the suspect. Ansar members, led by PC Aminul Haque and including Anik Sheikh, Hasan, Suman and Anik Basu, intervened and rescued the suspect from the crowd without injury. He was subsequently handed over to the hospital authorities.
The victim later declined to file a case, citing concerns over legal complications. Following instructions from the hospital authorities, an undertaking was obtained in the presence of the suspect’s family, after which he was handed over to his relatives.
Ansar and Village Defence Party members regularly provide security at government hospitals across the country. Their prompt intervention was praised for preventing mob violence and helping maintain safety and order at the hospital.
