Multiple allegations have been raised against Ilias Ahmed or Nasir, superintendent engineer (SE) of the Sylhet Public Works Department (PWD) Circle, including bribery, commission trading, accumulation of huge illegal wealth, irregularities in government projects and money laundering abroad. The complainants also claim that a number of criminal cases are currently pending against him.
According to their sources, Ahmed is accused of case No. 110 in C.R. Case No. 118/2025, filed under Sections 147, 148, 326, 307, 506 and 34 of the Penal Code. The allegations have also raised questions over his continuedadministrative responsibilities while the case is pending.
Several sources have alleged that Ahmed accumulated huge illegal assets uneven to his known income during his service period. According to the allegations, Ilias Ahmed owns multiple properties,
including a luxury flat in Dhanmondi at Mega Prangan, House No. 128, Road 9/A, Dhaka-1209. He has also allegedly acquired a house abroad under second home project.
The allegations further claim that bank accounts have been maintained in the names of relatives and that money has been transferred overseas.
However, no final investigation report from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or any other government agency has been made public confirming these allegations.
Sources have also alleged that Ahmed used bank accounts in Malaysia and Dubai to transfer money abroad.
Repeated attempts were made to contact Ahmed on his personal mobile phone for his comments on the allegations, but he did not answer the calls. His response could therefore not be included in the report.
Most of the allegations against Ahmed are serious, but several remain subject to investigation or judicial proceedings and could not be independently verified.
A transparent investigation by the relevant authorities, particularly the Public Works Department and the Anti-Corruption Commission, is necessary to establish the facts and address public concerns.
Ilias Ahmedamong 6 PWD engineers banned from leaving country
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has blacklisted six executive engineers of the Department of Public Works (PWD) among 11 individuals from leaving the country.
ACC took the decision to conduct investigation against them for their alleged involvement in amassing illegal wealth through casino business.
ACC recently issued letter in this regard to Special Branch (SB) of Police.
According to the letter, ACC found evidences of their involvement in money laundering in primary investigation.
The accused who are banned from leaving country are: PWD additional chief engineer Utpal Kumar Dey, executive engineer Swapon Chakma, Mohammad Shawkat Ullah, Mohammad Fazlul Haque, Abdul Quader Chowdhury, Md Afsar Uddin, Md Ilias Ahmed, supervising engineer Abdul Momen Chowdhury, Md Rokon Uddin, senior assistant Mumitur Rahman and officer Sazzadul Islam.
