A courtyard meeting was held in Kishoreganj on Tuesday to raise public awareness about dengue prevention amid a worsening dengue situation in the district.
The awareness programme was organised by Kishoreganj Municipality at Gaital Abdul Wahed Janata Government Primary School.
Speaking as the chief guest, Kishoreganj Municipality Administrator and Deputy Director of the Local Government Division Jebun Nahar Shammi urged residents not to dump waste and polythene into drains.
She said accumulated waste and blocked drains create waterlogging and provide breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, the vector responsible for dengue transmission.
“Cleanliness habits must be developed from the family. Children, in particular, should be taught about cleanliness from an early age,” she said.
Shammi said a clean and dengue-free city could be ensured through joint efforts by the municipality and residents.
Municipality Executive Engineer Md Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Engineer Md Mizanur Rahman, Social Development Officer Sanjoy Kumar Modak, Accounts Officer Md Sirajul Islam and other officials attended the programme.
