Dengue claims 9 more lives in 24 hours

Nine more people died of dengue across Bangladesh in the 24 hours to Monday, while 1,902 new patients were hospitalised, taking the country's dengue death toll this year to 271.

According to a press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday, two of the latest deaths were reported in Barishal division, while three occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation.

Chattogram, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions each reported one death during the period.

Dengue deaths have risen sharply in recent months, with September recording 148 deaths—the highest monthly toll so far this year.

The country recorded five dengue deaths from January to May, followed by 13 in June, 36 in July, 43 in August and 148 in September.

Meanwhile, 1,988 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries this year to 82,335.

The cumulative number of dengue cases reported across the country has reached 88,360, according to the DGHS.
