The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force has launched a 28-day “Upazila/Thana Ansar Advanced Training-2026” programme under a pilot project based on the People’s Warfare Doctrine.
The training began on October 4 at two Ansar battalion training centres as part of the Armed Forces Division’s (AFD) “Training of Forces Under People’s Warfare Doctrine” pilot project, an initiative being implemented under the government’s election manifesto.
The first phase of the programme is currently underway at Safipur Ansar Battalion (27 Battalion) in Gazipur and Patuakhali Ansar Battalion (31 Battalion), with 200 members who have completed basic Upazila/Thana Ansar training taking part.
The authorities said the training will soon be expanded to eight more Ansar battalions.
The programme was planned at the initiative of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud to enhance the capabilities of volunteer members of Upazila/Thana Ansar companies.
One of the key objectives is to develop a trained and skilled workforce capable of responding effectively to national emergencies and challenging situations.
Under the supervision of the respective battalion commanders and overall guidance of the AFD, experienced instructors from the Bangladesh Army and Navy are conducting the training.
Participants are receiving practical instruction on basic firing techniques, general principles of aiming and firing safety. They are also being introduced to the infantry branch, the organisational structure of an infantry company and basic battlefield self-protection techniques.
The training also covers the use of camouflage, concealment and cover as part of defensive tactics in operational situations.
According to the authorities, the programme aims to enhance the military knowledge, skills and capabilities of Upazila/Thana Ansar members in line with the People’s Warfare Doctrine and prepare them to perform their duties effectively during any crisis or emergency in the country.
