Record 10 dengue deaths in 24 hours

Ten people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, the highest daily death toll recorded so far this year, while 1,996 new patients were hospitalised across the country during the same period.

With the latest fatalities, the country’s dengue death toll has reached 281 this year.

The figures were disclosed in a dengue-related press release issued by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

According to the release, among the patients hospitalised in the past 24 hours, 204 were from Barishal Division, 252 from Chattogram Division, 480 from Dhaka Division outside the city corporations, 294 from Dhaka North City Corporation and 187 from Dhaka South City Corporation.

Another 302 patients were admitted in Khulna Division, 96 in Mymensingh, 199 in Rajshahi, 75 in Rangpur and 18 in Sylhet.

As of October 6, a total of 90,356 dengue patients have been hospitalised across the country since the beginning of the year.

Of them, 84,299 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.

The dengue situation has worsened significantly compared with last year. According to DGHS data, a total of 102,861 people were infected with dengue between January 1 and December 31, 2025, while 413 people died of the disease during the period.
