The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested a madrasa head teacher, identified as Md Shafiuddin Khan Sifat, 26, in connection with a rape case filed over the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old student.
An SRB-3 team arrested Sifat from inside Babul Hotel near Baragram Chairman Bari intersection in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka, at around 6:35pm on October 5, following a tip-off, the force said in a statement.
According to the case statement and investigation, Sifat was the head teacher of Markazul Huda Madrasa, where the victim had been enrolled in the residential Hifz section about one and a half years ago.
The boy reportedly lived at the madrasa during his studies. Family members noticed on several occasions that he appeared distressed when they visited him and said he no longer wanted to continue studying there.
On October 2, when the family asked him to take food to the madrasa, the boy reportedly became upset and refused to go. His mother, Parvin Akter, 40, then asked him about the matter, following which he allegedly disclosed that the madrasa teacher had sexually assaulted him after taking him to his room at night and threatening him.
The boy’s mother subsequently filed a rape case with Kamrangirchar Police Station on October 3 under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.
Based on a requisition from Kamrangirchar Police and intelligence information, an SRB-3 team traced the accused and arrested him from the Kamrangirchar area.
Legal action has been taken against the accused, the SRB said.
