Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud has urged newly appointed officers to place national interests above personal interests and uphold professionalism, discipline and integrity in their duties.

He made the remarks while welcoming 19 newly appointed officers of the 45th BCS (Ansar) cadre at the force's headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday (November 1).

The officers joined the Ministry of Home Affairs before reporting to the headquarters of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force.

The director general welcomed them with flowers at a reception held at the headquarters' conference room. A subsequent introductory meeting focused on their professional responsibilities, leadership, organisational skills and the future development of the force.

Welcoming the officers, Major General Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud said Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force was the country's largest community-based disciplined security force, comprising nearly 6 million members.

The force consists of Battalion Ansar, deployed Ansar, General Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) and Town Defence Party (TDP) members.

He said each category of members had distinct responsibilities, but their collective contribution was vital to national security, maintaining public order and public welfare.

He stressed the need to coordinate the force's vast organisational strength to enhance its capabilities and effectiveness.

The director general said personal aspirations and career goals should be aligned with the institutional objectives, ideals and responsibilities of the force.

He urged the officers to pursue organisational excellence alongside personal success and contribute to the national interest.

He also highlighted the force's role beyond law enforcement and security, including social protection, public welfare, disaster response, humanitarian assistance, maintaining local peace and order, and socioeconomic development.

Emphasising the importance of engaging members at all levels, he urged the officers to maintain close communication with field personnel, understand their expectations and practical experiences, and take coordinated initiatives to strengthen the force.

He also called on them to demonstrate honesty, dedication, discipline, humanitarian values and responsible leadership in discharging their duties.

The meeting urged the newly appointed officers to apply their knowledge, talent and professional skills in line with the force's objectives.

It expressed hope that their collective efforts would further strengthen the force's institutional capacity, community engagement and contribution to national development and security.

Additional Director General of the force Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid and other officials were present at the event.
