RAB-8 has arrested two youths with a large quantity of fake currency notes and printing equipment in Barisal. The arrested are Mizan Hawlader (19), son of Lal Mia of Charkaua area under Bandar Police Station of Barisal Metropolitan, and Naeem Hossain (25), son of Farid Hossain of Lebubunia area under Rajapur Police Station of Jhalokati.
The matter was confirmed by RAB-8 Media Officer Senior Assistant Director Amit Hasan through a press release on Thursday afternoon, May 8. Earlier, the two were arrested in a drive based on secret information in Karnakathi and Charkaua areas under Bandar Police Station of Barisal Metropolitan.
According to RAB sources, RAB-8 members conducted a raid on the news of buying and selling fake currency notes on the road adjacent to Molla Bari in Karnakathi village. Upon reaching the scene, Mizan Hawlader and Nayeem Hossain tried to escape after sensing the presence of RAB. At that time, RAB members detained them. During initial interrogation, Mizan said that he came to the scene to sell fake currency notes of Tk 1 lakh to Nayeem for Tk 20,000 in cash.
Then, a fake currency note of Tk 1 lakh was recovered from Mizan's school bag. After recovering the fake currency notes, Mizan Hawlader said that he produced fake currency at his home. Based on such information, RAB members conducted a raid on Mizan's house in Charkaua village under Bandar police station. In addition to recovering fake currency notes of Tk 1 lakh 85,315, a printer, a laptop, four bottles of printer ink, a modem, three types of gum cans, several cables and other equipment were recovered during the raid. RAB-8 Senior Assistant Director Amit Hasan said that preparations are underway to file a case against the detainees at the Bandar Police Station of Barisal Metropolitan. RAB will continue such operations.
