An alleged hospital broker was detained by members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital on Tuesday and later handed over to police.
According to hospital authorities, the incident occurred around 12:25 pm in front of the women's ticket counter in the outpatient department. The suspect was reportedly providing misleading information to patients, claiming that no qualified doctors were available at the hospital and attempting to persuade them to seek treatment at a private healthcare facility.
On-duty Ansar personnel quickly intervened and detained the individual. During preliminary questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted to being involved with a broker network linked to a private hospital and to trying to divert patients for financial gain.
The detainee was identified as Md Hanif Mia, a resident of Amrail area under Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district.
The operation was carried out by PC Md Sadeq Hossain Bacchu, APC Md Shafiqul Islam, and Ansar member Md Shahidul Islam. With assistance from hospital authorities, the suspect was later handed over to the concerned police station for legal action.
Officials said the incident highlights the vigilance and professionalism of Ansar members in maintaining security and protecting patients from fraudulent activities at public healthcare facilities.
