Two alleged brokers were sentenced to one month of imprisonment each by a mobile court during an anti-brokerage drive at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Dhaka Metro Circle-3 office in Uttara on Thursday.
The mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate Mohammad Sajid Anwar, conducted the drive on November 5 and detained Md Yusuf, 40, and Md Abdur Rahim, 47, from the BRTA office premises.
According to the mobile court, the two men admitted to their offences, following which they were sentenced to one month of rigorous imprisonment each.
A fraudulent network had allegedly been exploiting service seekers by promising to expedite their work in exchange for money and collecting unnecessary documents. The drive was conducted following complaints of such activities.
Executive Magistrate Mohammad Sajid Anwar said authorities had received complaints of harassment and fraud involving people seeking services at the BRTA office.
“Our drives to keep the BRTA office free from brokers are being conducted regularly and will continue in the future,” he said.Officials concerned believe such drives will help prevent harassment, ensure transparency and curb the activities of broker networks at BRTA offices.
