The Special Response Battalion (SRB) has arrested two suspects in a high-profile kidnapping case filed with Mugda Police Station in Dhaka and rescued a 13-year-old girl from Nangalkot in Cumilla district.
The arrestees are Md Yasin Ahmed, 21, the prime accused, and his alleged accomplice Md Shamim, 29. They were arrested on October 19, 2026, in an operation conducted by SRB-3 with assistance from SRB-11. The victim, Tithi Malakar, was rescued from Yasin's custody.
According to SRB, the victim is a seventh-grade student at Kazi Zafar School in the capital's Mugda area.
Preliminary questioning and the case statement indicate that Yasin allegedly used to harass the girl on her way to and from school and had proposed a relationship with her. The victim's father had reportedly warned Yasin against contacting his daughter.
On October 5, when the girl's father dropped her off at school, Yasin and Shamim allegedly lured her with promises of marriage and an iPhone before forcibly abducting her from outside the school after classes ended.
The incident prompted the victim's father to file a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Mugda Police Station on October 10, 2026. The case is numbered 07.
Following the incident, an operational team of SRB-3's CPSCC company launched a covert investigation, traced the suspects' whereabouts and arrested them with assistance from SRB-11, the battalion said.
Legal action has been taken against the arrested suspects, according to SRB.
