A five-day specialised training programme on public order incident response and riot control has begun for members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force to enhance their operational capabilities in maintaining public order and responding effectively to emergencies.
The training, titled 'Public Order Incident Response and Riot Control Training', is being held at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy from November 1 to 5, 2026, with 118 participants.
The participants include 11 BCS officers, 10 members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB) and 97 Ansar Battalion members.
A five-member expert team from the Turkish Gendarmerie is conducting the training. The team is led by Gendarmerie Colonel Bora Tasdelen, Security, Cooperation and Internal Affairs Counsellor at the Turkish Embassy in Bangladesh.
Three experienced instructors from the Turkish Gendarmerie General Command and an interpreter are also involved in the programme.
On the first day, Gendarmerie First Lieutenant Oguzhan Karatas briefed participants on the objectives, curriculum, training modules and methodology of the five-day programme.
The six-hour daily training sessions focus on theoretical lessons, practical exercises, scenario-based training and demonstrations of operational techniques.
The first day's theoretical session was held at Bir Bikram Elahi Box Auditorium, followed by practical training at the academy's parade ground after lunch.
During the practical session, participants received hands-on training in various self-defence techniques, accompanied by demonstrations of the relevant skills.
The training is expected to strengthen the force's overall preparedness by combining modern techniques and practical knowledge with the existing professional skills and operational experience of Ansar Battalion members.
The newly acquired skills are expected to play an important role in managing public disorder, controlling riots, preventing sudden outbreaks of violence and responding swiftly and effectively to emergency situations.
The initiative is also expected to enhance the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force's capacity to maintain law and order and ensure public safety across the country.
