The ongoing labor unrest and instability within the garment industry are jeopardizing a significant portion of the nation’s export earnings. Consequently, Standard Group has suffered substantial business losses. The labor protests have disrupted the group’s production and supply operations. Standard Group reports that it is facing both financial and commercial losses due to its inability to deliver garment shipments to foreign buyers on schedule.

However, recent media reports have included Standard Group’s name among entities suspected of providing funding and personnel to support these protests. The management of Standard Group has issued a statement refuting these allegations, labeling them as baseless, fabricated, and misleading.

Standard Group began its garment and apparel manufacturing operations in 1983. It stands as a successful milestone in the new industrial revolution that emerged in Bangladesh following the decline of the jute industry. Today, Standard Group is one of the country’s leading exporters. The group has consistently ensured that workers receive their rightful dues.

As a major, well-established industrial conglomerate within the ready-made garment sector, it has long contributed to business growth, job creation, and the national economy. The group’s operations have always been conducted in compliance with prevailing laws, regulations, and the directives of relevant authorities.

Furthermore, the group regularly contributes significant revenue to the national exchequer and strengthens the country’s foreign exchange reserves. In the current climate, it is crucial to maintain normal production and supply operations within the garment industry—ensuring the timely payment of worker wages and benefits, and preserving industrial stability—for the sake of the national economy, export earnings, employment, and the livelihoods of thousands of workers.
