The government has launched an initiative to provide financial assistance and incentives to 38,950 sugarcane farmers, aiming to improve their livelihoods and revive the country's sugar industry, the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) said.

According to a press release issued by the corporation, the initiative follows the prime minister's directives and focuses on ensuring fair prices for farmers and delivering incentive payments directly to them on time.
The BSFIC expects the support to encourage farmers to cultivate more sugarcane and contribute to increasing domestic sugar production.

As part of the initiative, the Zia Parishad of the corporation organised a reception at the BSFIC headquarters on Tuesday morning. The programme was chaired by BSFIC Chairman (Grade-2) Md Shamsuzzaman (Surjo).
BSFIC Director for Sugarcane Development and Research Dr Abdul Alim Khan, Director for Production and Engineering Mohammad Saeed-ur-Rahman, Director for Finance Touhidina Akter, Director for Planning and Development Saifur Rahman Khan, Secretary Mohammad Mujibur Rahman and Chief Financial Officer Shahrina Tanaz attended the event, along with Zia Parishad leaders and other officials and employees.

At the event, the BSFIC chairman said the timely delivery of incentives to 38,950 sugarcane farmers was intended to restore their confidence. He added that efforts would continue to make the sugar industry profitable and modern.
According to the press release, the corporation also plans to increase the crushing capacity of sugar mills, expand sugarcane cultivation, promote modern agricultural technologies and provide direct assistance to farmers.
The BSFIC said timely payments for sugarcane and incentive support would encourage farmers to expand cultivation, particularly in areas surrounding sugar mills.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the domestic sugar industry, raise production and contribute to the national economy.
