MR Travels has launched a new air-conditioned bus service featuring sleeper and business-class options on the Jamalpur–Cox’s Bazar route to make long-distance travel more comfortable for passengers.
The service officially began on October 1, 2026, offering single sleeper, double sleeper and AC business-class seating for passengers travelling from Jamalpur and neighbouring areas to the popular tourist destination.
The bus departs from Jamalpur every other day at 5:30pm, travelling via Tangail and Dhaka, with scheduled stops in Cumilla and Lohagara. According to the timetable provided by the operator, it reaches Cox’s Bazar at 8:00am the following day.
The return journey begins from Cox’s Bazar in the evening, with the bus scheduled to arrive in Jamalpur at 9:00am the next morning.
According to MR Travels, the fare is Tk2,200 for a single sleeper, Tk4,400 for a double sleeper and Tk1,700 for an AC business-class seat. Tickets are available at counters and online.
The company said trained drivers, guides and helpers are assigned to operate the service. Drinking water is also provided to passengers as part of its efforts to improve comfort and safety during the journey.
Sabbir Rahman, counter master and manager of MR Travels, said the service had received a positive response since its launch, with ticket sales remaining encouraging. Passenger demand tends to rise during holidays, he added.
He said tickets could be purchased both at counters and online. Passengers buying tickets directly online have to pay an additional Tk100 as an online service charge, while those arranging tickets by phone pay the regular fare.
Sakhawat Hossain Shuvo, general secretary of the Jamalpur Bus-Minibus Owners Association, said the new service was introduced to improve transport options for passengers. Although several AC buses already operate on the route, the new sleeper and business-class facilities offer another option for travellers.
He said the association was working to introduce more modern buses on the Jamalpur–Dhaka and Jamalpur–Cox’s Bazar routes in phases, with the aim of providing safer and more efficient transport.
The association is also planning to expand non-stop bus services on the Jamalpur–Tangail–Dhaka route. The proposed service would operate via Madhupur and Tangail, picking up and dropping off passengers at designated counters to reduce travel time.
Shuvo, however, pointed to several challenges affecting bus operations, particularly on the Jamalpur–Mymensingh road. Narrow road sections, the movement of battery-powered and CNG-run auto-rickshaws, locally used motorised vehicles and roadside markets contribute to delays, he said.
He stressed that better traffic management, reduced congestion and improved road discipline would help ease passenger suffering and make public transport more reliable.
Transport operators are also preparing for increased passenger movement during the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja holidays. Shuvo said efforts would be made to prevent passenger harassment and ensure that fares were not charged above the prescribed rates.
He extended greetings to members of the Hindu community and other people celebrating Durga Puja, wishing passengers safe journeys during the holiday period.
Transport operators expect that the introduction of modern buses, improved passenger services and better management will gradually strengthen road connectivity in Jamalpur. The new MR Travels service is expected to provide an additional travel option for tourists and other passengers heading to Cox’s Bazar.
