Two people have been fined a total of Tk 3 lakh for illegally using gas and drawing it through a booster in Salna, Gazipur.
The fines were imposed during a joint drive by Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company and the district administration on Wednesday, October 14, in the Teknagpara and Palar Para areas.
According to the Gazipur office of Titas Gas, a sweets factory named Mim Rosher was illegally using gas for commercial purposes through an unauthorised installation and a booster connected to an industrial gas line belonging to Gold Star Steel Wire Ltd in Teknagpara.
During the drive, authorities disconnected the gas supply, seized the booster and fined a person concerned Tk 1.5 lakh.
In a separate operation in Palar Para, Salna, another person was fined Tk 1.5 lakh for illegal gas use.
The drive was led by Md Tashriful Islam, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate at the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner's Office.
Authorities also disconnected around 40 unauthorised residential double-burner connections, cutting an estimated gas load of 840 cubic feet per hour.
The total amount collected in fines was Tk 3 lakh. No case was filed in connection with the incidents, officials said.
