Allegations have surfaced that local individuals, including Maulana Sirajul Islam Siddiqui and Ruhul Qader Babul, were involved in buying and selling disputed land in Maheshkhali despite a 2024 court order cancelling a land record, causing financial hardship and distress to a family claiming ownership.

According to the allegations, the disputed land is located in Chaliatali village under Kalarmarchhara union of Maheshkhali upazila. The dispute centres on Khatian No. 425, allegedly created from Khatian Nos. 218 and 219 of the Uttar Nalbila mouza.

Abdus Sattar and others, heirs of the late Kashem Ali, filed a case with the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Court in Cox’s Bazar in 2019 seeking cancellation of Khatian No. 425.

The case was dismissed after the plaintiff reportedly went abroad and failed to pursue it. After returning in 2023, he sought to have the case reinstated. In 2024, the court ordered the cancellation of Khatian No. 425, according to the complainants.

However, the complainants allege that the disputed land was bought and sold again in 2026, disregarding the court's decision. They claim the transactions have caused financial losses and prolonged harassment for the family asserting ownership.

The allegations name Maulana Sirajul Islam Siddiqui, director of Chaliatali Ehiya Ulumuddin Madrasa, and Babul and his associates, including the late Zafar Ahmed’s son Ruhul Qader Babul.

Local residents and the affected family have also alleged that disputed land was purchased at low prices and subsequently occupied through various means. These allegations could not be independently verified.

The accused parties have reportedly sought an appeal against the court's decision.

The affected family has called for an impartial investigation, enforcement of the court order and legal action against those found responsible.

Contacted over the matter, Maheshkhali Assistant Commissioner (Land) Rubayet Ahmed said the authorities would examine the documents submitted by both parties before preparing a report.
