In Atwari, Panchagarh, the manager of fuel seller Ripon Enterprise was fined 30,000 BDT by a mobile court for creating a fuel shortage and selling diesel at an inflated price.
On Saturday morning, Md. Raju, a harvester owner from Setabganj in Dinajpur district, came to Ripon Enterprise in Fakirganj Bazar to purchase diesel. He bought 80 liters of diesel, but the shop sold it at 120 BDT per liter instead of the official price of 105 BDT. The incident caused a commotion among the people present.
Upon receiving the news, the Upazila Executive Officer and the Officer-in-Charge of the local police station, Md. Matiar Rahman, arrived at the scene. After confirming that diesel was being sold above the government-set price, the mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ripa moni Devi, imposed a fine of 30,000 BDT on the manager, Md. Mamun.
UN Officer Ripa moni Devi warned that illegal stockpiling or selling fuel at excessive prices will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and action will be taken wherever complaints are received.
