Forest department cracks down on land grabbing in Cox’s Bazar

In a joint operation, the Forest Department in Cox’s Bazar South Division recovered 4 acres of forest land, demolished illegal structures, and seized a dredging machine.
The operation was conducted from morning to evening on Saturday, April 4, in areas including Rajarkul Dariyadighi, Panerchhara, and Upper Rezu. The operation was led by Assistant Conservator of Forests Abhiujjayan (Rajarkul Range) and ACF Shyamal Kumar Ghosh of Dariyadighi.
More than 50 forest officers participated in the drive, including staff from Panerchhara Range Office and Dhoapalong Range Office.
The operation was carried out under the direction of Divisional Forest Officer Abdullah Al Mamun.
During the drive: a dredging machine used for illegal sand extraction was seized from Upper Rezu Beat under Rajarkul Range, an under-construction illegal structure in the same area was demolished, another permanent structure in Dariyadighi Beat of Ramu was destroyed, 4 acres of forest land illegally occupied in the name of a madrasa in Panerchhara Range were reclaimed. 
Divisional Forest Officer Abdullah Al Mamun stated that all illegal structures in forest areas are being removed in phases. He emphasized that illegal sand extraction, soil cutting, and deforestation will be strictly suppressed through ongoing operations.
He also warned that occupying forest land using the names of madrasa or schools is unacceptable. Any institution must be established on legally owned land.
He added that a list has already been prepared of those involved in illegal occupation, settlement, and land transactions in forest areas, and further operation will continue in phases.
