Twenty farmers in Jamalpur are set to receive air flow machines to help preserve onions, a highly perishable crop, under an initiative by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
According to the DAE, each selected farmer will be provided with one air flow machine along with Tk 28,000 in cash to improve onion storage facilities.
With the use of these machines, up to 300 maunds of onion can be preserved for as long as nine months. The government has allocated Tk 5.6 lakh to implement the programme in the district.
As part of the distribution, seven farmers each in Jamalpur Sadar and Islampur upazilas will receive the machines. Additionally, two farmers in Dewanganj upazila and one farmer each in Sarishabari, Melandah, Madarganj and Bakshiganj upazilas will benefit from the initiative.
The DAE office said the distribution of incentives will begin soon.
