Ansar members detained a suspected broker at Sherpur 250-bed District Sadar Hospital on Monday for allegedly misleading patients and persuading them to undergo medical tests at private diagnostic centres outside the hospital.
The man, identified as Sakhawat Hossain Putul, was detained from the hospital’s emergency department at around 11:30am.
According to Ansar officials, patrolling members noticed him allegedly approaching patients and directing them to private laboratories. They informed PC Md Kazim Uddin, who instructed APC Mohammad Anisur Rahman and Ansar member Md Haris Rahman to take action.
The Ansar members subsequently detained Putul and handed him over to police through the hospital authorities for legal action.
Patients and visitors praised the Ansar members for their prompt response, saying such action could help reduce harassment and the influence of brokers at public hospitals.
