A Japanese business delegation paid a courtesy call on Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) Administrator Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton on Tuesday morning, with discussions focusing on recruiting skilled workers from Rajshahi for employment in Japan, potential investment and cooperation in various sectors.
The meeting was held at the RCC administrator’s office at the Nagar Bhaban on August 18. At the beginning of the meeting, the RCC administrator welcomed the Japanese delegates with flowers.
During the discussion, the two sides explored opportunities to employ skilled workers from Rajshahi in different sectors in Japan. They also discussed investment and cooperation in mango processing, cold storage facilities for agricultural produce, healthcare, Japanese language education, information technology and other potential areas.
The possibility of establishing a “sister city” relationship between Rajshahi City Corporation and a Japanese city was also discussed positively.
RCC Administrator Md Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said there was considerable scope for cooperation with Japan to utilise Rajshahi’s skilled workforce and investment potential.
He expressed his willingness to work with Japanese partners in accordance with the country’s existing laws and regulations, subject to approval from the relevant authorities of the Bangladesh government and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
The Japanese delegation included Kawamoto Yasuhiro, chief executive officer of Japan Group; Yuta Shigemori, representative director of General Incorporated Association Hummingbird; Seiji Ishimoto, executive director of West Okayama Medical Clinic and chief executive officer of Handson Land; and Md Ziaul Karim of the International Department of Okayama Business College.
Professor Abu Sayeed of the Department of Marketing at the University of Rajshahi was also present at the meeting.
Among others, RCC Chief Executive Officer Md Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Executive Magistrate Nazmul Alam, Chief Conservancy Officer Sheikh Md Mamun, Superintending Engineer Khairul Baker, Superintending Engineer (in-charge) Ahmad Al Moin, Budget and Accounts Officer and other senior officials of the city corporation attended the meeting.
