The Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) held a seminar on September 2 to discuss ways to address the ongoing challenges facing its sugar mills and explore measures for recovery.
Titled “Existing Crisis of BSFIC Mills and Ways to Overcome It,” the seminar was organised by the Zia Parishad at the boardroom of the BSFIC Sugar Industry Bhaban at 10:00am.
BSFIC Chairman Md Shamsuzzaman Suruj attended the seminar as the chief guest. Joint Secretary and Director of Cane Development and Research Dr Abdul Alim Khan, Zia Parishad General Secretary Md Golam Rabbani, Organising Secretary Md Ashraf Sarkar Jewel and other leaders were also present.
BSFIC directors, secretary, heads of various departments, Zia Parishad President Md Abu Raihan and Vice-President Md Hasanuzzaman joined the event virtually. Managing directors and other officials of all sugar mills under the corporation also participated through the online platform.
The seminar discussed the mills’ existing challenges, ways to increase productivity and measures to overcome their financial and operational difficulties.
In his address, Chairman Shamsuzzaman Suruj said initiatives had been taken to revive closed sugar mills in line with the government’s goal of reopening closed industries, creating employment and strengthening the country’s economic growth.
He said plans were also being developed to reduce losses and bring the mills back to profitability through product diversification, efficient use of by-products and agro-based industrialisation.
In his concluding remarks, the chairman instructed all officials and employees to perform their respective duties with the highest level of sincerity, dedication and integrity to restore dynamism to the corporation and ensure the success of the initiatives undertaken.
