Dengue Deaths Hit 130, 9 in 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded its highest daily dengue death toll of the year on Tuesday, with nine people dying from the mosquito-borne disease in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest fatalities have raised the country’s dengue death toll to 130 since January 1.

Of the nine deaths, three were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation, while Dhaka and Khulna divisions recorded two each. Barisal and Mymensingh divisions reported one death each.

The country also recorded its highest daily number of new dengue hospitalisations this year, with 1,571 patients admitted in the same 24-hour period.

With the latest cases, the total number of dengue infections reported since the beginning of the year has reached 45,475, the DGHS said.

So far, 42,127 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the country.
