A suspected robber was arrested with a sharp knife at the Motijheel metro rail station in Dhaka on Monday after Ansar members intervened while he was allegedly attempting to snatch a woman passenger’s bag.
The incident took place at the station’s Entry-A gate, where the suspect, identified as Zakir Hossain, was allegedly pulling at the woman’s bag and threatening her near the lift.
Ansar member Md Rakibul Islam, who was on patrol duty at the station, noticed the incident and immediately moved in with APC Rokonuzzaman and Ansar member Shaheen Mia.
The three Ansar personnel managed to overpower and arrest Zakir at the scene. A search of his body later led to the recovery of a large sharp knife.
The Ansar members informed the station controller about the arrest. In the presence of the controller, they subsequently handed over the suspect and the seized weapon to MRT Police for further legal action.
The swift intervention by the Ansar personnel prevented a potentially serious crime at the busy metro station.
The woman passenger and other commuters present at the station praised the Ansar members for their prompt and courageous response.
