The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force has taken steps to resolve the long-standing accommodation crisis faced by its members deployed at Jahangirnagar University (JU), with the university authorities allocating two buildings for their residence.
The initiative follows a recent report published by Dhaka Post.com highlighting the poor living conditions of Ansar members at the university, including overcrowded accommodation in dilapidated buildings and a lack of gas facilities.
The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force said the issue had come to its attention and that it had been working with the university administration to address the accommodation problems.
Currently, 150 attached Ansar members under the Dhaka Administrative Zone are deployed to ensure the overall security of Jahangirnagar University.
As part of the initiative, the Dhaka District Commandant paid a courtesy visit to the university's vice-chancellor in October 2026. During the meeting, the accommodation crisis and related difficulties faced by the deployed Ansar members were discussed in detail.
Following the initiative, the university authorities allocated two buildings in Building No. 2 for the Ansar members.
Necessary residential facilities, including beds and fans, have already been arranged in the buildings. However, the members have yet to move in as the installation of gas connections for cooking remains incomplete.
The force expects the gas connection issue to be resolved within next week through coordination with the university administration. The Ansar members will be relocated to the newly allocated buildings immediately after the work is completed.
The initiative is expected to ease the long-standing accommodation crisis and improve the members' living standards, comfort and working environment.
The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force also thanked Dhaka Post.com for highlighting the accommodation problems faced by its members, saying responsible and constructive reporting could help bring positive changes to the organisation's overall management.
The force reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring better accommodation, a safe working environment and improved welfare and dignity for its members.
