Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sohana Nasrin has provided humanitarian assistance to newspaper hawkers in the district, distributing 750kg of rice among 25 hawkers.
Each recipient received 30kg of rice at a programme held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday.
Speaking at the event, DC Sohana Nasrin assured the newspaper hawkers of all possible support in dealing with their problems and crises.
She said newspaper hawkers play an important role in helping people access knowledge by delivering newspapers to their doorsteps.
“Although people now read more news online than offline in the digital age, we still rely on printed newspapers,” she said.
The DC said that after coming to work in Kishoreganj, being able to do something supportive for the people of the district would be a meaningful achievement for her.
“If even one person benefits from something I do, that will be my success amid all the work I do throughout the day,” she said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ishtiaq Emon, Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Kamrul Hasan Maruf, Kishoreganj Central Press Club President Ashraful Islam, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md Badruddoza, Kishoreganj District Newspaper Hawkers Cooperative Society President Md Jasim Uddin and General Secretary Md Robin Mia, among others, spoke at the programme.
The newspaper hawkers expressed their gratitude to the district administration, saying the assistance came at a difficult time for their profession.
