5 fined Tk 3.25 lakh for commercial use of residential gas

Five residential gas connections were disconnected and five people were fined a total of Tk 3.25 lakh for using household gas connections for commercial cooking at hotels and restaurants in Gazipur.

The action was taken on Wednesday during a joint drive by Titas Gas and the district administration in Bhuiyan Para, DUET Chhayataru Road and Shimultoli areas.

The drive was led by Md Salehur Rahman, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

Titas Gas Gazipur Office Manager Engineer Mostafa Mahbub said two users were fined Tk 1.15 lakh for using residential gas connections to operate the kitchens of Bismillah Hotel-1 and Bismillah Hotel-2 in Bhuiyan Para near Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET).

Two others were fined Tk 60,000 for using residential gas for commercial cooking at Jannat Hotel on Chhayataru Road.

In Shimultoli, another user was fined Tk 1.50 lakh for using a residential gas connection for commercial cooking at Handi Beef Hotel and Restaurant.

A total of five double-line residential gas connections were disconnected during the drive. The combined load of the disconnected connections was 105 cubic feet per hour.

The authorities said regular drives would continue against the commercial use of residential gas connections and necessary measures would be taken to prevent such illegal practices.
