Dr. Md. Mazibur Rahman, a distinguished nuclear scientist, has been appointed Chairman (Acting) of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC). The appointment was made through a gazette notification from the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh on August 18, 2025.
Before his appointment as Chairman, he served as a Member (Biology) of the Commission. He also held the position of Director of the International Relations Division and served as the National Liaison Officer (NLO) for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for a long time.
Dr. Md. Mazibur Rahman earned his PhD from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium in 2003. In 2008, he completed his post-doctoral research as a Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) at the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, Germany. More than 50 of his research papers have been published in various national and international journals.
In his professional career, he has visited over 20 countries, including Belgium, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, the USA, the UK, Russia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand for official purposes. He also served as the elected president of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Scientists Association for two consecutive terms (2014-2016 and 2016-2018), making significant contributions to the welfare of the scientists.
Dr. Rahman was born into a respectable Muslim family in the village of Panipara, Chandina Upazila, Cumilla district, in 1966. His wife is a professor at Dhaka University, and they have one son and one daughter.
