The Rajshahi District Police organised a tree plantation and sapling distribution programme on Tuesday (August 18) as part of efforts to protect the environment and promote a greener Bangladesh.
The programme was held at the drill shed of Rajshahi Police Lines.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi Range Md Ashik Sayeed attended the event as the chief guest, while Rajshahi Superintendent of Police Mohammad Naimul Hasan chaired the programme.
In his speech, DIG Ashik Sayeed emphasised the importance of extensive tree plantation to maintain environmental balance, mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change and build a greener Bangladesh.
He urged everyone to participate sincerely in tree plantation and take proper care of the trees from their respective positions.
Later, tree saplings were distributed among students of Shaheed Mamun Mahmud Police Line School and College.
As part of the programme, DIG Ashik Sayeed and his wife Mrs Shamim Ara Haque, adviser to the Police Women’s Welfare Association (PUNAK), Rajshahi Range, planted saplings on the Police Lines premises.
Rajshahi SP Mohammad Naimul Hasan and his wife Mrs Taposi Rabeya, president of PUNAK, Rajshahi District, also took part in the tree plantation.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Shariful Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) ATM Mainul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Helena Akter, and other senior officers and members of the Rajshahi District Police were present at the programme.
