Based on a secret tip-off, the police set up a check post in the Bedgram More area of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Monday (August 17) night and raided a passenger bus bound for Kotalipara that had left Dhaka. During the search, the police recovered a total of 3 kg of marijuana from them.
The arrested persons are—Mosa. Ayesha (40), Neamat Hazra (32), Md. Sharif Mia (25) and Arif Khalifa (38).
According to police sources, Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Md. On the instructions of Habibullah, based on secret information, a smart team of the District Detective Branch (DB) led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Kazi Humayun Rashid set up a check post at Bedgram intersection in the city on Monday night.
When a bus from Dhaka to Kotalipara reached there at around 10:05 pm, the DB police searched the bus. At that time, the four people who were passengers in the bus were detained, questioned and searched when the police suspected them. Later, 3 kg of marijuana was recovered from them.
The police claimed that the arrested persons were involved in drug trafficking. A regular case has been registered against them at Gopalganj Sadar Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
It is learnt that the arrested persons were later sent to jail through the court.
