SP seeks cooperation to eliminate drugs

Police have arrested two notorious drug dealers with Yaba worth about 2 crore taka in Gopalganj, Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah has sought cooperation from everyone in eradicating drugs.

In this regard, a press briefing was held at the conference room of the District Police Superintendent's office on Wednesday (August 19) afternoon, organized by the Gopalganj District Police.

In the briefing, Gopalganj District Police Superintendent Md. Habibullah exchanged views with journalists working in various electronic and print media in the district.

At that time, the Superintendent of Police informed the journalists that on the night of 18/08/2026, a smart team of the District Detective Branch (DB) conducted a special anti-drug operation. Today, on 19/08/2026, at approximately 02:30 am, a check post was set up on the paved road in front of the LGED office at Nabinbagh Sakin in Gopalganj Municipality under Gopalganj Sadar Police Station. While conducting the check post, at approximately 02:50 am, a DB team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Hasanur Rahman, along with the Officer-in-Charge (OC DB) of the District Detective Branch, Nayan Chandra Debnath, stopped a white Noah car at the check post while it was passing through the check post at a high speed. The notorious Yaba kingpins in the stopped car, 1. Md. Ujjwal Molla (38), 2. Md. Rifat Molla alias Wasim (22), were arrested. 

After that, the DB team searched the bodies of the arrested accused and the said vehicle and recovered a total of 64,123 (sixty-four thousand one hundred and twenty-three) narcotic drugs, Yaba tablets, with a market value of 1 crore 92 lakh 36 thousand 900 taka, and cash invested in the drug business worth 4,55,055/- (four lakh fifty-five thousand fifty-five taka).

 Then, the recovered drugs, cash invested in the drug business and the Noah car used in the drug business, with a market value of 44 lakh taka, were seized in front of the witnesses present on the basis of the seizure list. Necessary legal action is being taken in this regard.

The Superintendent of Police sought the overall cooperation of citizens of all classes and professions through journalists to control crime, build a drug-free, terror-free and peaceful Gopalganj.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Kazi Humayun Rashid, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sakhawat Hossain Sentu, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Hasanur Rahman, Assistant Superintendent of Police along with senior officials of the district police and journalists from print and electronic media of Gopalganj district were present at the time.
