Lalmonirhat-2 MP Rokon Uddin Babul has sought Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s intervention over what he described as a conspiracy by a faction of the local BNP.
Speaking at a workers’ evaluation meeting at Aditmari GS High School field in Lalmonirhat on Tuesday night, Babul urged the party chairman to conduct a fair investigation into the allegations against him.
“If the party chairman says I am unfit and asks me to resign, I will do so immediately,” he said, adding that he wanted the alleged conspiracy against him to be investigated.
Babul alleged that the group had also opposed his nomination during the election but that the party leadership nominated him after an investigation. He claimed the same group was again working against him and obstructing development activities in the constituency.
He called on BNP leaders and activists to remain alert, united and vigilant.
Earlier, a documentary highlighting 180 days of development activities after the government took office was screened at the meeting. Local BNP leaders and activists also spoke, alleging that internal divisions had emerged in the constituency after Kaliganj Upazila BNP convener Jahangir Alam was denied the party nomination.
They claimed Babul won the seat with the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol despite opposition from the rival faction and accused the group of conspiring against him. They also condemned what they described as attempts to obstruct development activities.
