Police arrested six people, including two women, and recovered three locally made firearms and 825 rounds of rifle ammunition during separate overnight raids in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar.
The raids were conducted in West Chhanuapara and Halkacha Para of Badarkhali Union on Sunday night. Police also recovered 55 rounds of pistol ammunition, two shotgun cartridges, mobile phones and equipment allegedly used to make firearms and ammunition.
Police said the arrested individuals are suspected of being involved in an organised robbery gang and supplying weapons for robberies. Based on information obtained during initial questioning, police later conducted a second raid and recovered 767 rounds of rifle ammunition from a sack behind a house.
The detainees allegedly have links to several robberies and other crimes in Chakaria and different parts of the Chattogram division, police said. Further investigation is underway, and legal proceedings under the Arms Act and other relevant laws are being initiated.
