Bangladesh drew 2–2 with Denmark in the Open section of the fifth round of the FIDE 46th Chess Olympiad, currently being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
In Sunday’s fifth-round match, Grandmaster Niaz Murshed secured Bangladesh’s only win in the Open section, defeating Denmark’s International Master Filip Boe Olsen.
International Master Manon Reja Neer and FIDE Master Tahsin Tazwar Zia drew their respective games against Denmark’s Grandmaster Jesper Sondergaard Thybo and Grandmaster Mads Andersen. International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, however, lost to Denmark’s Grandmaster Jonas Buhl Bjerre.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s women’s team registered a convincing 3–1 victory over Honduras in the fifth round.
Woman International Master Wadifa Ahmed, Woman FIDE Master Noshin Anjum and Woman Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo won their respective games against Honduras’ Woman FIDE Master Leslie Carolin Torres Hernandez, Woman FIDE Master Valeria Viana and Woman Candidate Master Diana Bobadilla.
Woman Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed lost her game to Honduras’ Camila Mejia.
Following five rounds, Bangladesh have collected six points in the Open section, while the women’s team have also accumulated six points.
