A celebratory procession was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP). The anniversary was observed through a variety of events. On Monday, October 26, at 11:00 AM, Barishal Divisional Commissioner Khalil Ahmed inaugurated the anniversary celebrations by releasing balloons and pigeons. Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner noted that as the population grows, so too do urbanization and the number of vehicles—leading to increased traffic congestion and a rise in criminal tendencies.
He highlighted that the police administration is working to address these challenges and bring services directly to the people's doorsteps. BMP Commissioner Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh stated that the Barishal Metropolitan Police has been performing its duties with great responsibility since its inception.
While police services are currently provided through four police stations, there are proposals to expand this scope; the plan includes adding four more stations, bringing the total to eight. This expansion will allow for a broader reach of police services to the city's residents.
The vibrant procession was led by the Divisional Commissioner and attended by BMP Commissioner Abu Raihan Muhammad Saleh; Range DIG Zulfikar Ali Haider; RRF Commandant (Additional DIG) Abdus Salam Rimon; SRB-8 Captain Mohammad Zakiul Karim; 10 APBn Captain (Additional DIG) Md. Shahab Uddin; Deputy Commissioner Md. Mamun Khandaker; Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Md. Abdul Hannan; Deputy Police Commissioner (South) Sushanta Sarkar; Barishal Press Club President Aminul Islam Khosru; former General Secretary Kazi Miraj Mahmud; as well as senior police officials and journalists from various print and electronic media outlets.
Following the inauguration, a celebratory procession moved through the city, traversing several key thoroughfares. Later, the anniversary was celebrated by cutting a cake at the BMP office. It is worth noting that the Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) began its operations on October 26, 2006. Currently, 1,800 police personnel are serving in the Barishal Metropolitan Police.
