Japan is keen to increase investment in Bangladesh, considering the country an attractive destination for Japanese businesses, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Akazawa Ryosei told Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday.

The Japanese minister conveyed his country's interest in expanding investment and further strengthening bilateral relations during a meeting with the prime minister in Japan on October 28, said PM's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin.

Tarique thanked the Japanese government for its continued support and cooperation in Bangladesh's efforts to build a developed and prosperous country.

Both sides agreed to advance cooperation in areas discussed during the recent bilateral summit between Tarique Rahman and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and to further strengthen ties between the two countries.

They also emphasised the need to capitalise on growing interest among Japanese business leaders in Bangladesh to attract greater investment.

Recalling his parents' contributions to Bangladesh-Japan relations, Tarique said his father, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and his mother, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, had each visited Japan twice.

He said bilateral relations had continued to develop since their time and expressed his commitment to carrying forward that legacy.

The prime minister also invited Akazawa to visit Bangladesh.
