Prosecutors Seek State Control of Hasina, Kamal Assets
Publish: Tuesday, 3 November, 2026, 6:16 PM

The Office of the Chief Prosecutor has written to the Home Ministry seeking immediate steps to bring all movable and immovable assets of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal under government control.

Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam confirmed on Tuesday that the letter had been sent. The letter, signed by the chief prosecutor, was also copied to the registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal and the private secretaries to the home and law ministers.

The letter concerns the implementation of an International Crimes Tribunal-1 verdict ordering the confiscation of assets belonging to the two fugitive convicts.

On November 17, 2025, the tribunal sentenced Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan to death for crimes against humanity and ordered the confiscation of all their assets to provide compensation to the families of those killed during the July uprising and the victims.

The tribunal also directed the Home Ministry to take necessary steps to implement the confiscation order.

The Chief Prosecutor's Office warned that delays in bringing the assets under state control could allow the convicts to use, sell or transfer their properties, potentially frustrating the tribunal's verdict.

It urged the ministry to prepare a comprehensive inventory of their movable and immovable properties, take them under government control and arrange their distribution in accordance with the tribunal's order.

Hasina's declared assets

According to her affidavit submitted as a candidate for the 2024 parliamentary election from Gopalganj-3, Sheikh Hasina declared movable and immovable assets worth Tk4.34 crore in her name.

Her declared assets included around Tk28,500 in cash, nearly Tk2.39 crore deposited with banks and financial institutions, Tk25 lakh in savings certificates and Tk55 lakh in fixed deposits.

She also listed three vehicles, including one received as a gift. The other two were valued at Tk47.5 lakh. Her gold and other precious metals were valued at Tk13.25 lakh, while furniture was worth Tk7.40 lakh.

Hasina declared 15.3 bighas of agricultural land in Tungipara, Gopalganj Sadar, Gazipur and Rangpur, with an acquisition value of Tk6.78 lakh.

Her affidavit also listed a 10-katha plot in Purbachal, Dhaka, valued at Tk34.76 lakh, and 6.10 decimals of land, including a three-storey building, in Tungipara, valued at Tk5 lakh.

A family garden house is located in Telirchala, Mouchak, near the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gazipur. According to local land office sources, the 297-decimal property was originally registered in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the 1970s and later inherited by Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana.

The two sisters subsequently transferred portions of the land to their children.

The family also received a total of 60 kathas of land in Purbachal, with 10 kathas allocated to each of six family members, including Hasina, her children and members of Rehana's family. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed cases over alleged irregularities and abuse of power in the allocation of these plots.

The ACC said in a briefing on May 22 last year that Hasina had provided false information about her landholdings in her affidavit for the 2008 parliamentary election. While she declared 6.50 acres, an ACC verification reportedly found more than 28 acres and 41 decimals of immovable property in her name.

The land commission also sent a letter to the Election Commission seeking action over the discrepancy.

The Dhanmondi-32 house is owned by the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust, while the ownership of Hasina's former residence, Sudha Sadan in Dhanmondi, is registered in the names of her son Sajeeb Wazed and daughter Saima Wazed.

 Asaduzzaman Khan's declared assets

According to his affidavit for the 2024 parliamentary election from Dhaka-12, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan declared assets worth around Tk10.25 crore, excluding the value of his gold.

His declared assets included more than Tk84 lakh in cash, around Tk82 lakh in bank deposits, nearly Tk24 lakh in bonds and shares, and Tk2.01 crore in savings certificates and fixed deposits.

He listed two vehicles valued at Tk1.61 crore, electronic equipment and furniture worth Tk2 lakh, and Tk2.20 crore as business capital provided as loans.

He also declared 10 bhori of gold without specifying its value.

His agricultural land amounted to 171 decimals, valued at Tk1.06 crore, while his non-agricultural land covered 18.5 decimals, valued at Tk58.5 lakh.

He also listed two properties under the house and apartment category, including a village house valued at Tk80 lakh and another property worth around Tk13 lakh.

The ACC is investigating his assets and has filed a case alleging that he acquired and possessed assets worth Tk16.42 crore beyond his known sources of income.
