A significant development has emerged in the widely discussed Bangladesh Bank reserve heist case, with a court in New York ordering former governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur to provide a deposition.
According to an internal document from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Dr Mansur is scheduled to give his deposition on 10 April in compliance with the court's directive.
The document states that the court order was confirmed via email on 11 March by lawyers involved in the case, Dharmendra Nayar and Barrister Syed Afzal Hasan Uddin. They also informed the relevant parties about preparations for the deposition.
It further notes that Dr Mansur has already submitted an affidavit at the court's request and is now required to appear for direct testimony as part of the next stage of proceedings.
To facilitate this, Bangladesh Bank-appointed legal firms BSNK and Keystone are arranging preparatory meetings with Dr Mansur on 6 and 10 April.
Sources indicate that Dr Mansur departed Dhaka for the United States on 4 April and is expected to travel to New York via Washington, D.C. He is scheduled to return to the country on 12 April. A request has also been made for an accompanying official to join him on the trip.
The BFIU document adds that all expenses related to the visit will be borne by Bangladesh Bank, including airfare, accommodation, and protocol arrangements. It recommends that facilities equivalent to those of the current governor be provided, with coordination to be handled by the governor's office.
