In a heart-warming and unique initiative, the administration and student leaders of the Bijoy-24 Hall at Rajshahi University (RU) harvested lychees from the hall premises and delivered them directly to students' rooms on Friday.
A Sweet Surprise
Led by the Hall Union leaders and supervised by the Provost, Professor Md. Jamirul Islam, approximately 5,000 fresh lychees were collected from the trees within the hall compound. The fruits were then meticulously distributed among:
135 Rooms: Including the PhD block, where each room received 25 to 30 lychees.
Hall Staff: Officers and employees also received a share of the harvest.
Fostering a Festive Spirit
The initiative transformed the residential hall into a celebratory space, reminding many of their childhood memories of harvesting fruit.
"Last year, we distributed fruits from every tree, and we maintained that tradition this year," said Russell Mia, VP of the Bijoy-24 Hall Union. "Collecting and delivering these to the rooms creates a festive atmosphere that brings us all closer."
From Tree to Room
Professor Md. Jamirul Islam expressed his satisfaction with the event, noting that the goal was inclusivity.
"One of our trees was heavily laden with fruit this year. We wanted every student to enjoy the bounty of the hall," the Provost remarked. "The entire process was conducted in a joyful, festive spirit."
The move has been widely praised by students, adding a touch of community warmth and a unique dimension to their university life.
