Prompt action by Bangladesh Ansar personnel saved a woman and her 11-month-old child from an apparent suicide attempt at Hatirjheel in the capital.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when patrolling Ansar members Zahidul and Redwan noticed a woman attempting to jump in front of moving vehicles with her infant near the RAJUK project area. They immediately intervened and prevented the attempt.
As the woman refused to leave the road, saying she did not want to live, the Ansar members, with assistance from RAB-3 personnel, calmed her and took her to safety. They later contacted her family with the help of Hatirjheel Police Station.
Her husband, Shariful Islam, arrived at the scene and said his 30-year-old wife, Farzana, has been suffering from hormonal complications and mental health issues. The family had come to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment, but she left a relative's house in Malibagh with the child without informing anyone.
The mother and child were handed over safely to the husband. He expressed gratitude to the Ansar members for their timely and humane intervention in saving their lives.
