Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party personnel foiled an attempted burglary at the main branch of Agrani Bank in Faridpur Sadar early Thursday, arresting one suspect along with stolen items.
The incident took place at around 3:30 am while Ansar personnel, led by Platoon Commander (PC) Md Abu Bakkar and Assistant Platoon Commander (APC) Md Shahid Khan, were conducting a routine security patrol. Ansar members Md Shah Alam and Md Rashed Mia noticed suspicious activity and heard the sound of electrical wires being cut near the bank's air-conditioning unit.
The team immediately alerted their camp, and additional Ansar members rushed to the scene. After surrounding the area, they conducted an operation and caught Md Rakib Mondal, 30, red-handed with the stolen materials.
Rakib Mondal, a resident of Hamdah village in Jhenaidah Sadar, was later handed over to police for legal action after preliminary questioning in coordination with the bank authorities.
According to bank officials, the timely intervention by the Ansar personnel prevented significant damage and possible loss of valuable bank property. The incident highlighted the force's professionalism, vigilance and commitment to protecting key public and private installations.
