A discussion meeting and prayer session were held in Mohanpur to commemorate the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising and to felicitate Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, Member of Parliament from Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur), on his appointment as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Water Resources.
The programme was organized by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its associate bodies at the Mohanpur Upazila premises at 4:00 pm on Tuesday (July 21).
The event was presided over by Mohanpur Upazila BNP President Shamimul Islam Mun and moderated by Upazila BNP General Secretary Mahbub Ar Rashid and former Organising Secretary Professor Kazim Uddin.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, MP Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon paid tribute to the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising and urged party leaders and activists to remain united in upholding the ideals and sacrifices of the martyrs.
Among those present were former Rajshahi District Jubo Dal President Mojadded Jamani Sumon, former Mayor of Naohata Municipality Mokbul Hossain, former Mohanpur Upazila BNP President Professor Abdus Samad, BNP leader Abdul Kader, Organising Secretary Bacchu Rahman, Krishak Dal President Golam Mostafa Bablu, General Secretary SM Matiur Rahman, Swechchhasebak Dal President Jahangir Alam, Senior Joint Convener W Government, Joint Conveners Mahfuz Alam Shimul and Hatem Ali, Sramik Dal President Mozammel Haque, Member Secretary and former UP Member Abdul Karim Mondal, Mohanpur Upazila Mohila Dal President Moutusi Sultana Ruma, Member Secretary Bobita Khatun, youth leaders Mirza Shawkat and Nahid Parvez Himu, Upazila Chhatra Dal President Abdur Razzak, Member Secretary Mahmudul Hasan Rubel, Shakibul Hasan Liton, along with leaders of different union and municipal BNP units and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations.
The active participation of leaders and activists of the Mohanpur Upazila Mohila Dal was particularly noticeable, adding vibrancy to the programme.
The programme concluded with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the souls of the July martyrs and prayers for the country's peace, prosperity and democratic progress.
