Md. Shahin Sagor, Rajshahi Bureau: Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator and Chairman of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Rajshahi City Unit, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, distributed prizes among the winners of a drawing and snakes- and-ladders competition organized to raise awareness about heatwaves among school students.
The prize-giving ceremony was held on Sunday (July 19) at Hamidpur Naodapara Pilot High School under the RACE (Red Crescent Action for Climate and Environment) project of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. As the chief guest, the administrator also planted tree saplings on the school premises.
Speaking at the event, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton urged students and the public to remain vigilant during periods of extreme heat. He advised people to drink sufficient safe water, use umbrellas or hats while outdoors, wear light-colored cotton clothing, avoid going outside during the hottest hours of the day, and share heatwave safety knowledge with their families and communities.
He also emphasized that extensive tree plantation is essential for building a greener, cleaner, and healthier Rajshahi, and called on everyone to plant at least one tree.
As part of the programme, students received basic first-aid training, awareness hand fans carrying heatwave safety messages were distributed, and a first-aid box was handed over to the school. Officials of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, teachers, students, and local dignitaries attended the event.
