Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party foiled an attempted theft at the CPGCBL coal-fired power plant in Matarbari, Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox's Bazar, recovering around 500 kilograms of iron scrap.
The incident occurred at around 11:05 pm on Sunday when a group of seven to eight suspected thieves allegedly tried to steal iron scrap from the area between the Mugdail and Rangakhali security posts inside the project.
Patrolling Ansar members APC Apu Singh, Didarul Alam and Shahriya rushed to the spot and challenged the suspects. The group fled the scene, leaving behind the stolen scrap.
The recovered scrap was later handed over to the project authorities following due procedures.
The Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party said its members remain committed to protecting key national installations, preventing theft and sabotage, and safeguarding state assets through constant vigilance and professional duty.
